To maintain a healthy landscape requires proper watering techniques. When watering or fertilizing - rather than just getting the surface wet, it is critical to get water and/or feed all the way down to the plant's root zone. By effectively watering deeply each time, it reduces the amount of times needed to water and promotes healthy plants. Ideally you should water the soil until it's fully saturated, then wait to water again until the soil is just ever-so-slightly moist - this way the roots get the air and oxygen they need, along with their nutrients!
